This catechetical certificate demonstrates that a catechist has taken courses designed to impart the essential knowledge and skills needed to hand on the Faith. Ideally, this initial formation should precede the beginning of one’s catechetical ministry. Catechists who complete these basic courses should have the confidence and skills to be a parish catechist.

This noncredit certificate program provides a strong foundation in the documents of Vatican II and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The courses were developed in collaboration with the Diocese of Brooklyn Holy Spirit Institute for Service and Leadership for the formation of missionary disciples to serve as pastoral leaders in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Yes. Every course, certificate and seminar is online, so you can learn from wherever you live and serve.
No. Continuing Education programs are noncredit, so there is no application or admission process. Simply enroll in the course, certificate or seminar you choose.
No. You don’t need a degree or any previous study, only a desire to learn more about your faith.
Yes. Independent Study courses are fully self-paced, and you have up to three months from purchase to finish each one. Seminars last three weeks and are offered several times a year. See upcoming seminars.
Prices vary by program and are listed on each course and certificate page. Your diocese or parish may offer special pricing through a partnership with us. See partner information.
Each course varies from 1-3 Continuing Education Units (CEU). Each CEU equals about 10 hours of learning, including readings, videos and assignments. Because courses are self-paced, you can finish sooner or spread the work over up to three months.
When you complete all the requirements of a certificate program, you receive a certificate of completion from Catholic International University.
