Principles of Management

3 Credits

This course explores the theory and principles of organization and management through an integrated perspective that considers financial, social, and ecological well-being. Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching, the course examines how principles of human dignity, the common good, solidarity, subsidiarity, and care for creation inform managerial decision-making and organizational purpose. Students learn to balance financial viability with social responsibility and environmental stewardship across the four major management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Topics include strategic planning, organization design, people management, ethical leadership, motivation and human flourishing, team management, and control systems. The course emphasizes both traditional management competencies and the broader responsibilities of business in serving society and protecting creation.
