Joseph R. Birkofer, CFP®, is principal and founder of Legacy Asset
Management, Inc. in Houston. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional and a Registered Investment Advisor, Joe works with clients by creating a comprehensive financial plan and custom asset allocation based on their individual needs. In addition, Joe leads the firm’s Retirement Plan consulting practice, working with plan sponsor employers to improve plan investment options, employee communication and education, and streamline plan administration. Prior to founding Legacy Asset Management, he served as a Trust Officer with Texas Commerce Bank.

Planning at Rice University’s School of Continuing Education Certified Financial Planner® program. Birkofer serves as an Advisory Board member of The Periwinkle Foundation and is on the Advisory Board of Incarnate Word Academy. He regularly provides commentary for The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine, CBS Market Watch, Associated Press, Investment News, Financial Planner, and Benefits & Compensation Solutions, and locally for the Houston Chronicle, the Houston Business Journal, and local radio and television shows. Joe earned his B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and his M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. He has several securities licenses, including the FINRA Series 63 and 65, and is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF).
