Dr. Joseph Atkinson is an associate professor of Sacred Scripture at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Joseph C. Atkinson is considered to be a leading expert in the theology of the domestic church. He has done extensive and ground-breaking research in the Biblical and theological foundations of the family’s role in salvation history. He has written and lectured extensively and teaches on the Biblical structure of the family, hermeneutics, the Jewish background of the family, and covenantal theology.

His published articles include “Inerrancy as a Hermeneutic for Catholic Exegesis,” “Family As Domestic Church: Developmental Trajectory, Legitimacy, And Problems Of Appropriation,” “Nuptiality as a Paradigmatic Structure of Biblical Revelation.” Primordial Biblical Triptych: The Symbolic Structure of Water in the Old Testament,” and a co-authored article for Logos: “Person as Substantive Relation and Reproductive Technologies: Biblical and Philosophical Foundations.” EWTN produced a 13-part series with Dr. Atkinson on the Biblical vision of marriage and family.

In his younger years, Dr. Atkinson had the experience of living in the l’Arche communities in France. Currently, he is married and has six children.
