Dr. Edgar Omar Segura Esparragoza (Faculty Member, part-time), educator and author, holds a
doctorate from the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (UASLP). An educator for eight years
serving at undergraduate level, he currently serves in Centro de Bachillerato Tecnológico Agropecuario
N°143 teaching the course on philosophical thought and humanities.
Segura Esparragoza is the author of numerous investigations related to evangelization and
ecclesiastical archives. In relation to the Catholic Church, he is a specialist in ecclesiastical history of the
viceroyalty of New Spain, specifically in Franciscan evangelization of the Chichimecas and popular
religiosity, particularly brotherhoods. Because of this, he has been awarded with “Theatrum mundi of the
territories of hunter-gatherers in the Chichimeca province, northern jurisdiction of the former bishopric
of Michoacán during the 17th century” and “Religiosity and popular piety to Saint Michael the
Archangel and the consolidation of the religious festival of Moors and Christians in Guanajuato-San Luis
Potosí”. Both historical investigations were awarded in XX and XIX Premio Nacional Citibanamex
Atanasio G. Saravia by Fomento Cultural Citibanamex editions 2022-2023 and 2020-2021. Besides he
was awarded an honorable mention in 70° edición de Certamen 20 de noviembre de S.L.P. “Francisco
Peña” Historical Research by Gobierno del Estado de S.L.P. in 2021.
He currently collaborates in the identification, classification, conservation and restoration of
ecclesiastical archives of Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption of Santa María del Río, S.L.P. México
through a working collaboration with ADABI A.C. (Apoyo al Desarrollo de Archivos y Bibliotecas de
México) generating a Inventory of the Parish Archives of Our Lady of the Assumption, Santa María del
Río, San Luis Potosí. 2023 and can be consulted in the following link

As part of his training, he has prepared with the course-workshop on ecclesiastical archives by the
Pontifical University of Mexico in 2024 with topics such as ecclesiastical history and history of religious
orders. In his parish he belongs to brotherhoods such as: Militias of San Miguel Arcángel, Brotherhood
of the Divine Redeemer and Brotherhood of San Juan Bautista.
He has participated in church groups such as Proceso Juvenil Vocacional, Movimiento de Encuentros de
Adolescentes Evangelizadores ‘Arcoiris’, Pastoral Juvenil y Adoración Nocturna Mexicana.
