Deacon Chris (Cristóbal) Gutierrez was born in Los Angeles, California but raised in Mexico by his paternal grandparents from a young age. While living in Mexico he finished his primary education as well as finishing high school and obtaining a bachelor’s in philosophy from the Major Seminary of San Juan de los Lagos. He currently lives in Kentucky with his wife Patti together with their 6 beautiful children. A lot of his extended family lives in California, others in Mexico. Since 2007 he has been working and involved in Hispanic/Latino Ministry. For approximately 8 years he served as coordinator of Hispanic Ministry in a parish and since 2014 has been the director of the Office of Hispanic/Latino Ministry for the
Diocese of Owensboro in Kentucky. In 2017 he was ordained a permanent deacon for the diocese and is currently assigned to the Parish of Sts. Joseph and Paul in Owensboro KY. He has a passion for the pastoral care of brothers and sisters in the peripheries. He loves serving and accompanying Latin-American immigrants and for years has been a strong advocate for realizing the dream of comprehensive immigration reform in the U.S. Chris loves spending time with his kids and being present to parishes, pastors, and communities as much as possible. He also has a love for teaching and sharing with others what has been freely given to him. Being part of the CDU family is a blessing for which he is grateful.
