Literature and the Sacramental Imagination is an exploration of the unique ability of stories to incarnate ideas and meaning. Students study how such stories might complement the mission of the Church and engage the culture. They will increase their knowledge of the importance of cultivating a Catholic and sacramental imagination, develop their critical reading skills, and develop their communication skills by interacting with works by Christian literary giants like J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Students who complete this course will be able to identify the relationship between imagination, meaning, reason, and truth, as well as articulate how Christians can utilize imaginative literature to propose the faith to an age longing for meaning.
