Philosophy of Science

3 Credits

This course examines the philosophy of science through Catholic philosophical and theological traditions, focusing on Thomistic metaphysics. Students explore how these truths shape our understanding of material realities, human nature, and scientific inquiry, including the limits of science regarding immaterial realities. Topics include the nature of scientific knowledge, the relationship between faith and reason, and metaphysical foundations such as being, causality, and divine providence. The course analyzes how Catholic thought informs scientific exploration and interpretation, integrating theological insights with empirical research to provide a wiser understanding of science’s role within a broader worldview. Pre-requisites: Standard admission requirements.
