For over a decade, Prof. David Bonagura has served as an adjunct professor of theology at Catholic International University, helping students grow in knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. Now, he brings his theological expertise to a wider audience with his latest book, which is available now, 100 Tough Questions for Catholics: Common Obstacles to Faith Today, published by Sophia Institute Press.
A Book for Catholics Seeking to Understand and Defend their Faith
100 Tough Questions for Catholics is designed for two key groups: committed Catholics who want to defend their faith and those who are seeking answers to tough questions about Catholicism. The book provides straightforward responses to 100 pressing questions covering topics like God, the Bible, science, morality, AI, the afterlife, and more.
“Studies show that the top reason for young people leaving the Church is that they do not find answers to their questions about God and the faith,” Prof. Bonagura explains. “Since I regularly address these concerns in my teaching—especially with high school students—I compiled the most frequently asked and thought-provoking questions into this book so that more Catholics could benefit.”
The book is divided into 14 chapters by theme, following an intentional arc. It begins with foundational questions about God and creation, moves through topics related to human life, morality, and the sacraments, and concludes with practical advice for those who wish to live as practicing Catholics but feel unsure where to start.
“The final chapter is especially important,” Prof. Bonagura notes. “It provides a roadmap for those who, having found answers to their doubts, want to deepen their Catholic faith and practice.”
A Legacy in Catholic Apologetics
This new release marks Prof. Bonagura’s third book on Catholic apologetics. His previous works include:
Steadfast in Faith: Catholicism and the Challenges of Secularism (2019) – A theological and practical exploration of faith in the modern world.
Staying with the Catholic Church: Trusting God’s Plan of Salvation (2021) – A compelling case for remaining in the Church as the means of salvation.
Additionally, he translated Jerome’s Tears: Letters to Friends in Mourning (2023), a collection of St. Jerome’s letters of consolation.
The book has already received high praise, including an endorsement from Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York: “The Catholic in your life who has questions about the Church will certainly appreciate this book!”
